Flavour Says He Overcame Masturbation Addiction by Choosing Sex Workers Instead — But Is It Really a Solution?
Nigerian highlife singer Flavour has sparked conversations online after sharing how he claims he overcame a masturbation addiction.
Speaking during a lighthearted conversation with friends, the singer said he struggled with masturbation for about two years and sought spiritual help to overcome the habit.
According to Flavour, he visited a priest who prayed for him, instructed him to fast for 21 days, and gave him Bible passages to read. Despite following the advice, he said the addiction did not stop.
The singer explained that he later spoke to another man who suggested a different approach. According to his account, the man took him to a sex worker and paid for the encounter. Flavour said that from then on, he chose to visit sex workers instead of masturbating whenever he had sexual urges, adding that this was how he eventually overcame the addiction.
The revelation has since sparked mixed reactions on social media, with many questioning whether replacing masturbation with paid sex is a genuine solution or simply exchanging one problem for another.
Critics point out that visiting sex workers can expose people to several risks, including sexually transmitted infections if proper protection is not used, financial costs, theft, scams, blackmail, or even violent attacks. Others also argue that it may replace one compulsive behavior with another instead of addressing the root cause.
Health experts generally advise that people struggling with compulsive sexual behaviors seek healthier and safer approaches, such as counseling, therapy, support groups, or guidance from qualified professionals, rather than engaging in risky behaviors.
Flavour’s comments have continued to fuel debate online, with many Nigerians sharing different opinions on the best way to deal with masturbation addiction.
